Sony and OmniVision have been granted US licences to renew delivery some picture sensors to China’s Huawei, Nikkei Asia reported on Thursday, citing a number of sources aware of the matter.
US curbs on Huawei, which cite safety considerations, have banned international suppliers from promoting it chips, together with picture sensors, which use US expertise, with no particular licence since September 15.
But some show and picture sensor-related suppliers are receiving US licences as these elements are thought of much less associated to cybersecurity considerations, Nikkei Asia reported, quoting a chip trade govt.
The report stated the licence granted to Sony could possibly be restricted solely to a portion of its merchandise.
Sony declined to remark. Representatives of OmniVision, a subsidiary of Shanghai-listed Will Semiconductor, couldn’t be reached for speedy remark.
Samsung’s show unit has acquired licences from US authorities to proceed supplying sure show panel merchandise to Huawei, a supply advised Reuters.
